NOVENA TO OUR LADY OF SORROWS
Welcome to the Novena to Our Lady of Sorrows, a sacred journey of prayer with the Blessed Virgin Mary as we bring before God the wounds, sorrows, burdens, disappointments, and hidden struggles of our lives.
Our Lady of Sorrows knows what it means to suffer. She stood beneath the Cross and watched her beloved Son Jesus suffer and die for the salvation of the world. Her heart was pierced by the sword foretold by Simeon: “And a sword will pierce through your own soul also.” (Luke 2:35) Yet Mary remained faithful. She did not run from the Cross. She stood with Jesus in love, surrender, courage, and hope.
During these days of prayer, we place our own sorrows into Mary's hands and ask her to lead us closer to Jesus. We pray for those carrying silent pain, grieving a loved one, facing rejection, struggling with family problems, experiencing financial burdens, waiting for healing, battling disappointment, or simply trying to remain faithful in a difficult season. Through Mary's intercession, may our suffering become a place where we encounter the mercy and strength of Christ.
This novena invites us to contemplate the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary and to unite our suffering with the Passion of Christ. We do not ask Mary to replace Jesus, but to lead us more deeply to Him, just as she always does. “Do whatever he tells you.” (John 2:5)
As you pray each day, bring your intentions before the Lord with faith. You may write your intentions in the comments and join with others who are praying this novena. Let us carry one another in prayer and trust that God is near to those whose hearts are broken.
PRAY THIS NOVENA WITH FAITH.
PRAY WITH TEARS IF YOU MUST.
PRAY WITH HOPE EVEN WHEN YOU CANNOT SEE THE WAY FORWARD.
OUR LADY OF SORROWS, LEAD US TO JESUS.
Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.
Mother of Sorrows, pray for us.
Mary, Mother who stood beneath the Cross, pray for us.
Jesus Crucified, have mercy on us.
May the Lord strengthen every sorrowful heart, heal every wounded soul, restore hope where there is despair, and give us the grace to remain faithful beneath every cross we are called to carry.

Most Sorrowful Mother, I come before you today with a heart that has known sorrow, disappointment, fear and wounds that are difficult to explain. I bring before you the struggles I carry in silence, the problems in my family, financial burdens, broken relationships, unanswered prayers and the fears I have about tomorrow. You know what it means to have a sword pierce the heart, because your own heart suffered deeply as you walked with Jesus. Teach me to bring my pain to Him instead of carrying it alone. May this novena draw me closer to Jesus and give me the grace to remain faithful even when my heart is hurting. Amen.
Most Sorrowful Mother, on this second day of the novena, I come before you with the pain of situations that have forced me to leave behind things and people I deeply love. Sometimes life changes suddenly, and what once gave me security is no longer there. I bring you the pain of losing a job, leaving a home, separating from loved ones, starting again after failure, or being pushed into an uncertain future. Mother, you know what it means to walk away from everything familiar while carrying fear within your heart. Stay beside me today and teach me to trust God when I do not understand where He is leading me. Amen.
Most Sorrowful Mother, I come before you today because the weight of my struggles has become heavy upon me. There are days when I feel exhausted from trying, waiting, praying and hoping for things to change. I bring before you the burdens of those struggling financially, those carrying debts, those searching for employment, those facing family problems, those waiting for healing, those enduring difficult relationships and those who have been praying for a breakthrough for a long time. Mother, you know what it means to carry sorrow in your heart while continuing to walk with God. Take my burdens to Jesus and obtain for me the grace to keep going when I feel that I have no strength left. Amen.
Most Sorrowful Mother, today I come before you carrying the burden of financial struggles, debts and needs that I do not know how to meet. You know the fear that comes when there is not enough money to pay the bills, provide food, support the family or respond to an urgent need. You know the shame that can come from borrowing, the anxiety of receiving demands for payment and the helplessness of working hard while still struggling to make ends meet. Mother, you also know what it means to trust God when circumstances are difficult and resources are limited. Take this burden to Jesus and teach me to seek Him without losing hope, wisdom or peace. Amen.
Our Lady of Sorrows, I come before you today with the pain of prayers that seem delayed, doors that remain closed, and petitions for which I am still waiting for an answer. You know the prayer I have repeated countless times, the opportunity I have been hoping for, the financial breakthrough I desperately need, the healing I continue to ask for, the relationship I desire to see restored, and the future I cannot yet understand. You know how difficult it is when I have prayed with faith and still see no change, especially when I watch others receive what I have been asking God for. Mother of Sorrows, remain close to me in this painful waiting, carry my petitions to Jesus, and teach me to trust Him even when His answer seems far away. Amen.
Our Lady of Sorrows, I come before you today carrying the pain of joblessness, career struggles, repeated rejection, and uncertainty about my future. You know what it feels like when I have qualifications but no opportunity, when I send applications and receive no response, when I attend interviews and am not selected, or when I work hard but still cannot find stability. You know the pressure I feel when I have responsibilities to meet, bills to pay, family members depending on me, and no clear answer about where my next opportunity will come from. Mother of Sorrows, take my fears and disappointments to Jesus, ask Him to guide my steps, open the right doors, strengthen my confidence, and give me the grace to trust Him while I continue seeking honest work and faithfully preparing for the future. Amen.
Our Lady of Sorrows, I come before you today carrying the pain of addiction, destructive habits, and the wounds they have caused in my life and family. You know the habits I have struggled to break, the promises I have made and failed to keep, the moments when I have wanted to change but found myself returning to the same patterns, and the shame that follows when I realize how much damage these struggles have caused. You also know the pain of watching someone I love destroy their life through addiction, anger, gambling, alcohol, drugs, pornography, destructive relationships, or other habits that have brought conflict and suffering into the family. Mother of Sorrows, take this wounded situation to Jesus, ask Him to give me freedom, courage, self control, healing, and the grace to seek the right help, so that what has become a source of sorrow may become a place where God's mercy and restoration are experienced. Amen.
Our Lady of Sorrows, today I come before you carrying the sorrow of my spiritual struggles, the temptations that weaken my resolve, and the moments when I feel far from God. I bring before you the dryness in my prayer, the sins I keep fighting, the distractions that pull my heart away from the Lord, and the discouragement that makes me wonder whether I can truly change. Sometimes I desire God sincerely, yet I find myself returning to the same weaknesses, losing my spiritual focus, or becoming cold in my relationship with Him. Mother, stand beside me in this battle and lead me back to the Heart of Jesus, where I can find mercy, strength, forgiveness, and the grace to begin again.
Our Lady of Sorrows, I come before you today carrying the pain of betrayal, disappointment, and broken trust. You know the wounds I carry because of people I trusted, the promises that were broken, the words that were not kept, and the relationships that changed in ways I never expected. You know how painful it is when someone I loved, respected, or depended upon becomes the source of my deepest disappointment, and how difficult it can be to trust again after being hurt. Mother of Sorrows, take this pain to Jesus and ask Him to heal the places in my heart that have been wounded by betrayal, to free me from bitterness and resentment, and to give me wisdom to forgive without becoming careless, strength to move forward without fear, and grace to trust God even when people have failed me. Amen.
