DAY 9: THE SORROW OF BETRAYAL, DISAPPOINTMENT AND BROKEN TRUST
Our Lady of Sorrows, I come before you today carrying the pain of betrayal, disappointment, and broken trust. You know the wounds I carry because of people I trusted, the promises that were broken, the words that were not kept, and the relationships that changed in ways I never expected. You know how painful it is when someone I loved, respected, or depended upon becomes the source of my deepest disappointment, and how difficult it can be to trust again after being hurt. Mother of Sorrows, take this pain to Jesus and ask Him to heal the places in my heart that have been wounded by betrayal, to free me from bitterness and resentment, and to give me wisdom to forgive without becoming careless, strength to move forward without fear, and grace to trust God even when people have failed me. Amen.
“It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in people.” — Psalm 118:8
Betrayal can leave a wound that is difficult to explain because it does not only hurt what happened; it changes the way I look at people and relationships. I may have trusted someone with my heart, my secrets, my plans, my finances, my family, my work, or something deeply important to me, only to discover that my trust was misplaced. A friend may have abandoned me when I needed them most, a spouse may have broken a promise, a family member may have turned against me, someone I helped may have repaid my kindness with betrayal, or a person I depended upon may have disappointed me when I least expected it. After such experiences, I may begin questioning everyone, expecting people to hurt me again, and carrying anger long after the situation has ended.
Mary understands the sorrow of standing beside someone she loved while watching Him rejected, humiliated, abandoned, and condemned. She experienced the pain of seeing Jesus suffer, yet she did not allow sorrow to destroy her love or separate her from God. Today, she teaches me that forgiveness does not mean pretending that betrayal never happened or allowing someone to continue harming me. I can forgive while still establishing healthy boundaries, seeking justice when necessary, learning from what happened, and being wise about whom I trust. Jesus calls me away from hatred and revenge, but He also calls me to truth. I can place the person who hurt me into God's hands while asking the Lord to heal my heart so that their actions do not continue controlling my peace.
Our Lady of Sorrows, I bring before you the betrayal that has wounded my heart. You know the person who disappointed me, the promise that was broken, the trust that was abused, and the pain I have carried because of what happened. You know the questions that remain in my mind and the moments when I replay the situation and wish things had been different. Sometimes I feel angry because I gave my trust sincerely and received pain in return. Mother, help me bring this wound honestly before Jesus instead of allowing it to become bitterness that slowly destroys my peace.
[MENTION YOUR PERSONAL PETITIONS AND THE BETRAYALS, DISAPPOINTMENTS, BROKEN TRUST, OR RELATIONSHIP WOUNDS YOU ARE BRINGING BEFORE GOD HERE]
Lord Jesus, I ask You to heal the part of my heart that has been damaged by betrayal. Remove the anger that consumes me, the resentment that keeps me trapped in the past, and the desire to make someone suffer because they caused me pain. Give me the grace to forgive from the heart, even when forgiveness is difficult and even when healing takes time. Help me understand that forgiveness does not require me to deny what happened or place myself back into an unsafe or unhealthy situation. Give me wisdom to know when reconciliation is possible, when boundaries are necessary, and when I must simply place the person into Your hands and continue walking forward.
Lord Jesus, heal the disappointment that has changed the way I see people. When someone has broken my trust, help me not to believe that everyone will do the same. When I have been abandoned, remind me that You remain faithful. When someone has rejected me, remind me that my worth does not depend upon another person's acceptance. When I have been deceived, give me wisdom without allowing suspicion to control my heart. Restore my ability to love, to hope, and to form healthy relationships without carrying the wounds of yesterday into every relationship I encounter today.
Our Lady of Sorrows, stay beside me when memories of betrayal return and my heart begins to hurt again. Help me surrender the situation to Jesus whenever I am tempted to seek revenge, reopen old wounds, or allow anger to consume my peace. If I have also broken someone's trust, give me humility to acknowledge what I have done, seek forgiveness, and make amends where possible. If I am the wounded person, give me courage to heal without becoming bitter and wisdom to move forward without abandoning healthy boundaries. May the wounds I carry become places where Christ teaches me deeper forgiveness, discernment, patience, strength, and complete trust in God. Amen.
My God, I offer You this Rosary for Your glory, so that I may honor Your Holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and meditate upon her suffering in union with Jesus Christ. I humbly beg You to give me true repentance for all my sins. Give me wisdom and humility, so that I may receive the graces and indulgences associated with this prayer. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows, help me place before You every betrayal that has wounded me, every disappointment that has discouraged me, every promise that was broken, and every relationship in which my trust was abused. Heal my heart, remove bitterness and resentment, teach me to forgive with wisdom, and help me place my ultimate trust in You. Amen.
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend You, my God, You Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
Pray 3 Hail Mary.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Scripture: Luke 2:22–35
Simeon told Mary that a sword would pierce her heart because of the suffering that would come through Jesus. Mary received this painful prophecy knowing that sorrow would touch her life in ways she could not yet fully understand. She remained faithful to God even though she knew that suffering awaited her.
Prayer:
Our Lady of Sorrows, I bring before you the pain I experienced when someone I trusted became the source of my disappointment. Sometimes the wound began with something small, but over time I realized that the person I trusted was not who I believed them to be. The discovery hurt because I had opened my heart and believed their words. Help me surrender the pain of that realization to Jesus and prevent disappointment from becoming a permanent wound in my heart.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Mary.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Scripture: Matthew 2:13–15
Mary and Joseph had to flee into Egypt because danger threatened Jesus. They had to leave behind what was familiar and enter an uncertain situation. Their journey reminds me that sometimes I must make difficult decisions when a relationship or situation has become harmful to my peace and wellbeing.
Prayer:
Mother of Sorrows, give me wisdom when I must distance myself from someone who has repeatedly broken my trust. Help me understand that forgiveness does not mean that I must ignore patterns of harmful behavior or continually place myself where I will be wounded again. Give me courage to establish healthy boundaries without hatred and to walk away when remaining would continue causing unnecessary harm. If reconciliation is possible, guide me toward it with truth and wisdom; if distance is necessary, give me peace without bitterness.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Mary.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Scripture: Luke 2:41–52
Mary and Joseph experienced deep anguish when they realized that Jesus was no longer with them. They searched for Him until they found Him in the Temple. Their sorrow reminds me of the emptiness I can experience when something precious is lost through betrayal or disappointment.
Prayer:
Our Lady of Sorrows, I bring before you what I lost because of broken trust. Perhaps I lost a friendship, a relationship, a marriage, an opportunity, financial security, peace, confidence, or the sense of safety I once had with someone. Sometimes I miss what the relationship was before the betrayal happened, even though I know I cannot return to the past. Help me grieve what I have lost without becoming trapped in memories of what could have been. Lead me back to Jesus, who can restore my peace even when a relationship cannot be restored to what it once was.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Mary.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Scripture: Luke 23:27–31
Mary met Jesus while He was carrying His Cross toward Calvary. She could not remove His suffering, but she remained close to Him during His darkest hour. Her presence reminds me that when I am carrying the cross of betrayal, I do not have to carry it without Christ.
Prayer:
Mother of Sorrows, meet me in the pain I carry because of the person who hurt me. When I feel alone because someone I trusted walked away, rejected me, deceived me, or turned against me, remind me that Jesus has not abandoned me. When I am tempted to believe that nobody can be trusted, help me remember that God remains faithful even when human beings fail. Give me strength to continue living, loving, and hoping without allowing one person's actions to determine the rest of my life.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Mary.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Scripture: John 19:25–27
Mary stood at the foot of the Cross while Jesus suffered. She remained present through the darkest moment and did not abandon Him. Her faithfulness reminds me that even when betrayal makes me question relationships, I must never allow human failure to make me turn away from God.
Prayer:
Our Sorrowful Mother, stand beside me when my heart is overwhelmed by anger and disappointment. When I am tempted to retaliate against the person who hurt me, help me choose the path of Christ. When I want to expose, humiliate, punish, or hurt someone because I feel wounded, place the Cross of Jesus before my eyes and remind me that revenge will not heal my heart. Give me the grace to forgive, the wisdom to establish boundaries, and the strength to leave justice in God's hands. May I refuse to become what wounded me.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Mary.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Scripture: John 19:38–40
Mary received the dead Body of Jesus after His death on the Cross. Her sorrow was profound, and everything appeared to have been taken from her. Yet even in that moment of unimaginable pain, God's plan had not ended.
Prayer:
Mother of Sorrows, I bring you the deepest wounds left by betrayal. Some disappointments have changed me, damaged my confidence, and made it difficult for me to trust again. There are wounds I cannot simply forget because they affected something precious in my life. Ask Jesus to heal what I cannot heal by myself and to restore the peace that betrayal took from me. Help me forgive without pretending that nothing happened, remember without remaining imprisoned by the past, and move forward without allowing another person's failure to define my future.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Mary.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Scripture: John 19:41–42
Jesus was placed in the tomb, and everything appeared finished. There was silence before the Resurrection, and nobody could yet see the victory God was preparing. This mystery reminds me that even when a relationship, dream, or season of my life appears to have ended through betrayal, God can still bring new life from the ruins.
Prayer:
Our Lady of Sorrows, I place before you the relationships and situations that ended in painful disappointment. I bring you the things I once hoped would work out but were destroyed by betrayal, dishonesty, rejection, or broken promises. Help me release what I cannot change and stop allowing the past to control my present. If something can be restored according to God's will, guide it toward genuine healing and truth; if it must remain in the past, give me the grace to accept it and move forward. May Jesus bring new life to the places in me that betrayal made feel dead, and may I learn to trust God more deeply than I have ever trusted any human being.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Mary.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Lord Jesus, I place before You the person or situation that has caused me the deepest betrayal and disappointment. You know what happened, what I lost, what I expected, and how deeply the experience wounded me. I ask You to heal my heart from resentment, anger, suspicion, and the desire for revenge, while giving me wisdom to recognize the boundaries I need to protect myself from further harm. Teach me to forgive without denying the truth, to love without abandoning wisdom, and to move forward without carrying yesterday's wounds into tomorrow's relationships. If I have broken someone's trust, give me humility to acknowledge it and make amends where possible. If I am the wounded one, restore my peace and help me trust You completely, knowing that even when people fail me, You remain faithful. Amen.
Queen of Martyrs, your heart suffered so much, yet you remained faithful when those you loved suffered and when everything seemed lost. I beg you, by the merits of the tears you shed in those terrible and sorrowful times, to obtain for me the grace of complete sincerity, forgiveness, healing, and peace. Mother, I place before you every betrayal that still hurts me, every disappointment I have not been able to release, every promise that was broken, and every relationship that left me wounded. Ask Jesus to remove bitterness from my heart, protect me from hatred and revenge, and give me wisdom to forgive while maintaining whatever healthy boundaries are necessary. Help me stop allowing the actions of those who hurt me to control my peace and my future. May the Lord restore what can be restored, give me grace to release what must be released, and teach me to place my deepest trust in Him. Amen.
Mary, who was conceived without sin and who suffered for us, pray for us.
Mary, who was conceived without sin and who suffered for us, pray for us.
Mary, who was conceived without sin and who suffered for us, pray for us.
In the name of The Father, and The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Amen.
