DAY 3: WHEN THE WEIGHT OF STRUGGLE IS HEAVY UPON ME
DAY 3: WHEN THE WEIGHT OF STRUGGLE IS HEAVY UPON ME
Most Sorrowful Mother, I come before you today because the weight of my struggles has become heavy upon me. There are days when I feel exhausted from trying, waiting, praying and hoping for things to change. I bring before you the burdens of those struggling financially, those carrying debts, those searching for employment, those facing family problems, those waiting for healing, those enduring difficult relationships and those who have been praying for a breakthrough for a long time. Mother, you know what it means to carry sorrow in your heart while continuing to walk with God. Take my burdens to Jesus and obtain for me the grace to keep going when I feel that I have no strength left. Amen.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
Sometimes the greatest struggle is not one particular problem, but the weight of many problems arriving at the same time. You may be worried about money while also dealing with family problems. You may be looking for work while carrying debts and responsibilities. You may be praying for healing while trying to remain strong for everyone around you. You may wake up each morning wondering how you will face another day when the situation that has exhausted you still has not changed.
There are moments when even prayer feels difficult because the heart is tired. You have asked God for help, but the burden seems to remain. You have knocked on doors, but they remain closed. You have tried to make things better, but another problem appears. Mary understands the sorrow of continuing forward while carrying a burden in the heart. Today, do not be ashamed to tell Jesus, “Lord, I am tired.” He does not reject the weary. He says, “Come to me.” Bring Him the weight you can no longer carry alone.
Most Sorrowful Mother, I come before you today with the weight of my struggles upon my heart. Sometimes I feel tired from carrying responsibilities that seem to have no end. I have tried to remain strong, but there are moments when I feel like breaking down. You know the worries that occupy my mind when I lie down at night and the questions that rise within me when I wake up in the morning. You know the burden of situations that have continued for so long that I no longer know when they will end. Mother, bring my weary heart to Jesus.
I place before you my struggles with money, debts, employment, family, relationships and the future. I bring the prayers I have repeated many times and the answers I am still waiting to receive. I bring the responsibilities that have become too heavy and the problems that I cannot solve by my own strength. I bring before Jesus the people I love whose struggles also weigh upon my heart.
At this moment, I place my personal intentions before Jesus through the intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows:
[MENTION YOUR PERSONAL INTENTIONS HERE]
Mother of Sorrows, please carry these intentions to your Son. Remember those who are struggling to feed their families, those who are overwhelmed by debts, those searching desperately for work and those whose businesses are failing. Remember those praying for healing, those waiting for marriage, those longing for children, those seeking restoration in their families and those who feel that life has become an endless battle. May Jesus provide where there is need, strengthen where there is weakness and open the right doors according to His holy will.
Most Merciful Mother, teach me how to continue when the weight of struggle becomes heavy. Help me not to mistake God's silence for His absence. When I am tempted to give up, remind me that the Lord is still holding me. When I cannot see the answer, give me grace to trust the One who already knows the way forward. When I have no strength to carry tomorrow, give me grace to carry only today's burden and leave tomorrow in God's hands. Amen.
My God, I offer You this Rosary for Your glory, so that I may honor Your Holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and meditate upon her suffering in union with Jesus Christ. I humbly beg You to give me true repentance for all my sins. Give me wisdom and humility, so that I may receive the graces and indulgences associated with this prayer. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows, teach me to unite my struggles with the Passion of Christ and to trust Your grace when the burdens of life become heavy. Amen.
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend You, my God, You Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
Pray 3 Hail Marys.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Luke 2:22–35
Simeon told Mary that a sword would pierce her soul. Even at the beginning of Jesus' earthly life, Mary received the knowledge that suffering would come. Her joy was accompanied by a sorrow she could not escape.
Beloved Mother Mary, pray for me when I am carrying the weight of knowing that difficult days may lie ahead. Sometimes I worry about my family's future, my finances, my children, my work or my health. I think about problems that have not yet been solved, and fear begins to overwhelm me. Teach me to surrender the future to God instead of carrying tomorrow's burden today. Help me trust Jesus, who knows what I cannot see and will never abandon me. Amen.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Marys.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Matthew 2:13–15
Mary and Joseph had to flee with Jesus because Herod sought His life. They were forced to leave what was familiar and enter an uncertain situation. They had to trust God while carrying the responsibility of protecting the Child entrusted to them.
Beloved Mother, remember those whose struggles have forced them to begin again. Pray for the person who lost a job, the family struggling to survive and the person who has lost financial stability. Pray for those who have had to leave their homes or separate from people they love because circumstances gave them no choice. When the road ahead is uncertain, give them courage to continue. Help them trust that God can provide even when they cannot see where the provision will come from. Amen.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Marys.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Luke 2:41–52
Mary experienced the anguish of realizing that Jesus was not with her. She searched for Him with a troubled heart until she found Him. Her sorrow reminds us of what it feels like when the burden becomes so heavy that we desperately long to find peace again.
Mother of Sorrows, pray for me when I feel lost beneath the weight of my struggles. Sometimes I do not know what decision to make or which direction to take. I may feel that I have lost my peace, my confidence, my opportunities or even my sense of hope. Help me search for Jesus before I search for everything else. When I feel lost, lead me back to Him, because He alone can restore the peace my heart is seeking. Amen.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Marys.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Luke 23:27–31
Mary saw Jesus carrying His Cross and could not remove the burden from Him. She could only remain near Him in His suffering. Her sorrow reminds us of the pain of carrying our own burdens while also watching those we love struggle.
Mother of Sorrows, pray for those who are exhausted because they are carrying their own burdens while carrying the burdens of others. Remember parents worried about their children, spouses carrying family responsibilities and those caring for loved ones who are suffering. Sometimes we become tired because everyone depends upon us. Teach us to remember that we are not the Savior of the world. Help us place those we love into the hands of Jesus and allow Him to carry what we cannot carry. Amen.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Marys.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
John 19:25–27
Mary remained at the foot of the Cross while Jesus suffered. She could not change the situation, but she remained faithful. Her sorrow speaks to those who have reached a point where they have done everything they can and must simply remain with God.
Beloved Mother, when I have done everything I know to do and my situation still has not changed, teach me to remain with Jesus. When I have worked, prayed, sought help and tried again, yet the burden remains, keep me from giving up. When my family problems seem impossible, when financial pressures become overwhelming and when my prayers seem unanswered, help me stand at the foot of the Cross. Give me the grace to say, “Jesus, I trust in You,” even before I see the answer. Amen.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Marys.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
John 19:38–40
Mary received the dead Body of her Son after His Passion. She held what remained of the earthly life she had loved so deeply. Her sorrow reminds us of moments when our struggles leave us feeling emotionally exhausted, empty and unable to understand how we will begin again.
Mother of Sorrows, comfort those whose struggles have left them emotionally exhausted. Pray for those who have cried so much that they feel they have no tears left. Pray for those who have experienced devastating loss, disappointment or failure and now wonder how they will rebuild their lives. Hold them close to Jesus when they feel empty inside. Obtain for them the strength to rise again, one day at a time, trusting that God can bring new life even after terrible seasons of suffering. Amen.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Marys.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
John 19:41–42
Jesus was placed in the tomb, and Mary entered a period of painful silence. Nothing seemed to be happening. Yet God was working beyond what human eyes could see.
Most Sorrowful Mother, pray for me when the weight of waiting becomes almost unbearable. I have prayed, I have hoped and I have tried to remain faithful, but sometimes I wonder whether anything will ever change. When months or years pass without the answer I desire, protect me from despair. Teach me to trust God even when His work is hidden from my eyes. Help me believe that silence is not abandonment and that God can still bring resurrection into the situations I have almost given up on. Amen.
Pray 1 Our Father and 7 Hail Marys.
Most Merciful Mother, remind us always about the Sorrows of your Son, Jesus.
Lord Jesus, the weight of my struggle has become heavy, and today I admit that I cannot carry everything by myself. I have tried to be strong, but I need Your strength. I bring You my financial worries, family burdens, unanswered prayers, responsibilities, disappointments and fears about the future. Through Our Lady of Sorrows, teach me to surrender what is beyond my control and to trust You with what I cannot fix. Give me enough grace for today and enough faith to face tomorrow when it comes. Your Word says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Lord, I come to You now. Carry what is too heavy for me and give my weary heart Your peace. Amen.
Queen of Martyrs, you know what it means to continue walking while carrying deep sorrow within the heart. Look with compassion upon everyone whose struggles have become too heavy to bear. Pray for those carrying financial burdens, family problems, broken relationships, unemployment, grief, disappointment and long seasons of waiting. Obtain for us the grace to keep trusting Jesus even when the road is difficult. May we never forget that God is near to the weary, faithful to the suffering and powerful enough to bring hope where we see no way forward. Most Sorrowful Mother, remain beside us and lead us safely to your Son. Amen.
Three times:
Mary, who was conceived without sin and who suffered for us, pray for us.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
