St. Lawrence Novena
ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US THE GRACE TO LOVE CHRIST ABOVE ALL THINGS
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, faithful deacon of the Church and courageous martyr of Jesus Christ, I come before you today asking for the grace to love the Lord above everything else in my life. You treasured Christ more than earthly security, possessions, comfort, or even your own life. Teach me to place Jesus at the center of my heart and to choose Him faithfully when I am surrounded by distractions, temptations, fears, and competing desires. The Word of God says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). Through your intercession, may my heart belong completely to Christ.
O holy St. Lawrence, help me to recognize anything within me that has taken the place that belongs to God alone. When I become attached to possessions, recognition, relationships, ambitions, or worldly approval, obtain for me the grace to surrender them into the hands of the Lord. Teach me that everything earthly passes away, but the love of God remains forever. The Scriptures remind us, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2). Pray that I may seek first the Kingdom of God and entrust every other concern to His providence.
O courageous St. Lawrence, intercede for me when following Christ becomes difficult. When my faith is tested, when prayers seem unanswered, when suffering weighs heavily upon me, or when I am tempted to lose hope, strengthen me to remain close to Jesus. You remained faithful even when discipleship demanded the sacrifice of your life. The Word of God declares, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). Obtain for me a steadfast heart that will follow Christ through every season of my life.
O blessed St. Lawrence, I now place before you all my personal intentions and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting in your powerful intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, obtain for me a heart consumed with love for Jesus Christ. May I love Him in prayer, receive Him worthily in the Holy Eucharist, recognize Him in the poor and suffering, obey His commandments, and remain faithful to Him until the end of my earthly pilgrimage. May no trial, temptation, possession, fear, or human attachment ever separate me from His love. The Scriptures say, “Neither death, nor life...nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39). Through your prayers, may my whole life become an offering of love to Christ. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…
St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, faithful servant of Jesus Christ, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, obtain for us the grace to love Christ above all things, pray for us. Amen.
ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US THE GRACE TO SERVE THE POOR WITH LOVE
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, faithful deacon and loving servant of the poor, I come before you today asking for the grace to recognize Jesus in those who suffer. Entrusted with the care of the Church's goods, you understood that her true treasures were the poor, the weak, and those in need. Teach me never to close my heart to the suffering of another person. The Word of God says, “As you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40). Through your intercession, may I learn to encounter Christ in every person who needs compassion, dignity, encouragement, and practical help.
O holy St. Lawrence, deliver me from selfishness and indifference. When I am tempted to think only about my own needs, remind me that everything I possess is ultimately a gift entrusted to me by God. Give me a generous heart that willingly shares my time, resources, abilities, encouragement, and prayers with others. The Scriptures remind us, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God” (Hebrews 13:16). Obtain for me the grace to give without seeking recognition or repayment.
O compassionate St. Lawrence, intercede today for the poor, the hungry, the homeless, the unemployed, the abandoned, and all families struggling to meet their daily needs. Pray for those who silently suffer because they cannot provide food, shelter, education, medicine, or other necessities for those entrusted to their care. May the Lord open doors of provision for them and move the hearts of His people to respond generously. The Word of God declares, “He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed” (Proverbs 19:17). May I never overlook an opportunity to become an instrument of God's providence.
O blessed St. Lawrence, I now place before you all my personal intentions and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting in your loving intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, obtain for me the grace to serve Jesus faithfully in the poor and suffering. May my faith never consist merely of words, but bear fruit in compassion, generosity, mercy, and concrete acts of love. Teach me to give joyfully and to remember that whatever I do for the least of Christ's brothers and sisters, I do for Him. The Scriptures say, “Let us not love in word or speech but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3:18). Through your prayers, may my life become a living testimony of Christ's merciful love. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…
St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, servant and protector of the poor, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, obtain for us the grace to serve the poor with love, pray for us. Amen.
ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US COURAGE IN TIMES OF TRIAL
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, courageous martyr and fearless witness of Jesus Christ, I come before you today asking for strength whenever trials enter my life. You faced persecution and death without abandoning the Lord whom you loved. When fear rises within me and difficulties seem greater than my strength, remind me that Christ remains beside me. The Word of God says, “I can do all things in him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Through your intercession, may I receive courage not from my own strength, but from the grace of God working within me.
O holy St. Lawrence, strengthen me when I experience rejection, disappointment, uncertainty, financial difficulties, loneliness, opposition, or unexpected suffering. Keep me from believing that hardship means God has abandoned me. Instead, teach me to cling more firmly to Him and to trust that He can bring grace even from the crosses I do not understand. The Scriptures remind us, “We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him” (Romans 8:28). Obtain for me unwavering confidence in God's providence.
O courageous St. Lawrence, intercede for all Christians who suffer because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Pray for those who face persecution, discrimination, violence, imprisonment, rejection, or hostility because they refuse to deny the Gospel. Strengthen missionaries, clergy, religious, catechists, families, and lay believers who courageously witness to Christ in difficult circumstances. The Word of God declares, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:10). May the Lord strengthen His suffering Church and grant His people perseverance.
O blessed St. Lawrence, I now place before you all my personal intentions and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting in your powerful intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, obtain for me holy courage when my faith is tested. May I never allow fear to silence my witness, suffering to destroy my hope, or opposition to separate me from Christ. Help me to remember that Jesus has already conquered sin and death and that those who remain faithful to Him will share in His victory. The Scriptures say, “In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Through your prayers, may I face every trial with faith, courage, and unwavering hope. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…
St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, courageous witness of Jesus Christ, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, obtain for us courage in times of trial, pray for us. Amen.
ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US THE GRACE OF GENEROSITY AND DETACHMENT
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, faithful steward of the treasures entrusted to the Church, I come before you today asking for freedom from unhealthy attachment to material things. You understood that earthly wealth cannot compare with the eternal treasure found in Christ. Teach me to use what God has given me wisely, gratefully, and generously without allowing possessions to possess my heart. The Word of God says, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21). Through your intercession, may my greatest treasure always be Jesus Christ.
O holy St. Lawrence, obtain for me a generous spirit. Remove from my heart greed, envy, selfishness, and fear of giving. Teach me to trust God's providence while also using responsibly the blessings He places in my hands. May I willingly share with those who are struggling and never measure generosity only by what is convenient for me. The Scriptures remind us, “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Pray that generosity may become a joyful expression of my gratitude to God.
O blessed St. Lawrence, intercede for those whose hearts have become imprisoned by the pursuit of wealth, status, power, and worldly success. Pray also for those experiencing financial hardship, unemployment, debt, hunger, or anxiety about tomorrow. May God provide what they truly need and grant them wisdom, opportunity, perseverance, and generous people willing to assist them. The Word of God declares, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well” (Matthew 6:33). May we learn to place our security first in God.
O blessed St. Lawrence, I now place before you all my personal intentions and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting in your loving intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, obtain for me freedom of heart so that nothing earthly may become more important to me than God. Teach me to receive His blessings with gratitude, use them responsibly, share them generously, and surrender them peacefully whenever He asks. May I store up treasures in Heaven through faith, charity, mercy, and service. The Scriptures say, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Through your prayers, may generosity become one of the clearest signs that Christ lives within me. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…
St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, faithful steward of the Church's treasures, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, obtain for us the grace of generosity and detachment, pray for us. Amen.
ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US THE GRACE TO REMAIN FAITHFUL TO CHRIST
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, faithful disciple and martyr of Jesus Christ, I come before you today asking for the grace of perseverance. You remained steadfast when persecution threatened everything you held dear, and you chose fidelity to Christ above earthly life itself. Teach me not to follow Jesus only when the road is easy, but also when discipleship demands sacrifice. The Word of God says, “He who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:13). Through your intercession, obtain for me a faith that remains firm through every season.
O holy St. Lawrence, strengthen me whenever discouragement enters my spiritual life. When prayer becomes difficult, when temptation repeatedly attacks me, when I feel spiritually dry, or when God's answers seem delayed, keep me from abandoning the path of faith. Teach me to remain faithful even when I cannot see what God is doing. The Scriptures remind us, “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Obtain for me patient trust and the grace to continue seeking God with an undivided heart.
O faithful St. Lawrence, intercede for those who have grown distant from God and His Church. Pray for those whose faith has weakened because of suffering, scandal, disappointment, temptation, unanswered prayers, or the pressures of the world. May the Holy Spirit rekindle within them the fire of faith and lead them again into the loving embrace of Christ. The Word of God declares, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8). May every wandering heart rediscover the mercy and faithfulness of the Lord.
O blessed St. Lawrence, I now place before you all my personal intentions and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting in your powerful intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, obtain for me perseverance until the end. May neither suffering nor prosperity, neither rejection nor praise, neither temptation nor discouragement ever draw my heart away from Jesus. Help me remain faithful in prayer, faithful to God's commandments, faithful to the Sacraments, and faithful in works of charity. The Scriptures say, “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10). Through your intercession, may I remain firmly united to Christ until my final breath. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory Be…
St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, obtain for us the grace to remain faithful to Christ, pray for us. Amen.
ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US STRENGTH TO CARRY OUR CROSSES
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, courageous martyr who followed Christ along the path of sacrifice, I come before you today carrying the crosses that weigh upon my heart. You knew suffering, persecution, and the cost of discipleship, yet you refused to abandon Jesus. Teach me not to run from every cross, but to unite my suffering with the sacrifice of Christ and allow God to bring grace from it. The Word of God says, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Through your intercession, give me strength to follow Jesus faithfully.
O holy St. Lawrence, you know how easily suffering can exhaust the human heart. Intercede for me when burdens seem too heavy, when my prayers are mixed with tears, when I cannot understand why God permits certain trials, and when I feel that I have reached the limit of my strength. Help me place every burden into the hands of Jesus. The Scriptures remind us, “Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7). Obtain for me the grace to surrender what I cannot control and trust the Lord one day at a time.
O compassionate St. Lawrence, pray for all who carry hidden crosses. Intercede for those experiencing sickness, grief, poverty, family difficulties, loneliness, betrayal, persecution, or uncertainty about their future. Pray especially for those who feel forgotten and for those whose suffering is known only to God. May Christ draw near to them and strengthen them with His presence. The Word of God declares, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). May every suffering soul discover that the Lord remains close even in the darkest valley.
O blessed St. Lawrence, I now place before you all my personal intentions and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting in your compassionate intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, obtain for me strength to carry whatever cross God permits in my life without losing faith or hope. When I am weak, lead me to Jesus; when I am discouraged, remind me of His promises; and when suffering overwhelms me, help me rest beneath His Cross. May every trial draw me deeper into union with Christ rather than away from Him. The Scriptures say, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Through your prayers, may God's grace sustain me until every earthly cross gives way to eternal joy. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…

St. Lawrence, courageous bearer of suffering for Christ, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, obtain for us strength to carry our crosses, pray for us. Amen.
ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US A HEART FILLED WITH CHRISTIAN JOY
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, faithful martyr of Jesus Christ, I come before you today asking for the gift of Christian joy. Your courage in the face of suffering flowed from a heart anchored in Christ and confident in eternal life. Teach me that true joy does not depend upon everything around me being perfect, but upon knowing that I belong to Jesus and that nothing can separate me from His love. The Word of God says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4). Through your intercession, may the joy of Christ take root deeply within my heart.
O holy St. Lawrence, guard me from allowing disappointment, worry, resentment, or discouragement to steal the peace God desires to give me. When circumstances do not unfold according to my expectations, teach me to remain grateful for God's presence and faithful to His promises. May I learn to recognize His blessings even in difficult seasons. The Scriptures remind us, “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Obtain for me a joy that is rooted not in temporary circumstances but in the unchanging goodness of God.
O blessed St. Lawrence, intercede for those whose hearts have forgotten how to rejoice. Pray for the lonely, the grieving, the discouraged, the rejected, and those who awaken each day carrying burdens no one else sees. May Jesus restore hope to their hearts and surround them with people who reflect His compassion. The Word of God declares, “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5). May every wounded heart trust that darkness will not have the final word.
O blessed St. Lawrence, I now place before you all my personal intentions and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting in your loving intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, obtain for me the grace of a joyful and grateful heart. May I praise God in blessings and remain faithful to Him in trials. Help me bring encouragement rather than despair, hope rather than discouragement, and kindness rather than bitterness wherever God sends me. May the joy of belonging to Christ shine through my words, choices, and actions. The Scriptures say, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer” (Romans 12:12). Through your prayers, may the joy of the Gospel remain alive within me until I rejoice forever in the presence of God. Amen.

ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US THE GRACE TO BE COURAGEOUS WITNESSES OF CHRIST
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, courageous witness and martyr of Jesus Christ, I come before you today asking for the grace never to be ashamed of my faith. You publicly belonged to Christ even when doing so placed your earthly life in danger. Teach me to profess my faith not merely with my lips but through the way I live, speak, forgive, serve, and love. The Word of God says, “Every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32). Through your intercession, give me courage to belong openly and faithfully to Jesus.
O holy St. Lawrence, strengthen me whenever I am tempted to remain silent because I fear criticism, ridicule, rejection, or misunderstanding. Give me wisdom to defend the truth with charity, humility, patience, and respect. Keep me from harshness and pride, but also preserve me from cowardice when the Gospel requires a faithful witness. The Scriptures remind us, “Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence” (1 Peter 3:15). Obtain for me both courage and charity in witnessing to Christ.
O courageous St. Lawrence, intercede for the Church throughout the world. Pray for bishops, priests, deacons, religious, missionaries, catechists, parents, young people, and all the lay faithful who are called to bear witness to the Gospel. Strengthen those serving Christ in places where Christianity is rejected or persecuted. May the Holy Spirit give His people wisdom and boldness to proclaim Jesus faithfully. The Word of God declares, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). May our lives lead others toward the saving love of Christ.
O blessed St. Lawrence, I now place before you all my personal intentions and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting in your powerful intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, obtain for me the courage to become a faithful witness of Jesus wherever God places me. May my words proclaim truth, my actions reveal charity, my forgiveness reveal mercy, and my perseverance reveal hope. Keep me faithful when discipleship becomes costly and remind me that the Gospel is worth living and, if necessary, suffering for. The Scriptures say, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith” (Romans 1:16). Through your prayers, may my life boldly and humbly proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…

ST. LAWRENCE, OBTAIN FOR US THE GRACE OF FINAL PERSEVERANCE AND ETERNAL LIFE
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O glorious St. Lawrence, faithful deacon and victorious martyr of Jesus Christ, on this final day of our novena I come before you asking for the grace to remain faithful to God throughout my earthly pilgrimage. You completed your course with courage and surrendered your life rather than abandon Christ. Teach me to live each day with eternity before my eyes and to remember that my true homeland is with God. The Word of God says, “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10). Through your intercession, obtain for me the grace of final perseverance.
O holy St. Lawrence, help me to live in friendship with God and to turn quickly to His mercy whenever I fall. Keep me from delaying repentance or taking His grace for granted. Teach me to treasure prayer, Sacred Scripture, the Sacraments, works of mercy, and every opportunity God gives me to grow in holiness. The Scriptures remind us, “Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing” (Matthew 24:46). Obtain for me a vigilant heart that is always prepared to meet the Lord.
O compassionate St. Lawrence, intercede for all those approaching the end of their earthly pilgrimage. Pray for the dying, especially those who are frightened, alone, or spiritually unprepared. Pray for those who will die unexpectedly and for those who have no one to pray beside them. May Jesus grant them repentance, mercy, peace, and confidence in His saving love. Pray also for the faithful, departed undergoing purification, that through the mercy of God they may enter the joy of Heaven. The Word of God declares, “Whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's” (Romans 14:8). May every soul find refuge in Christ.
O blessed St. Lawrence, on this final day of the novena, I place before you once again all my personal intentions, my unanswered prayers, my struggles, my hopes, my loved ones, my future, and the deepest desires of my heart, trusting everything to your intercession before Almighty God:
(Mention your intentions here…)
O glorious St. Lawrence, as I complete this novena, obtain for me the grace never to turn away from Jesus Christ. May I live faithfully, love generously, serve the poor compassionately, carry my crosses patiently, defend the faith courageously, and persevere in God's grace until my final breath. When my earthly pilgrimage reaches its end, may Christ receive me into His eternal Kingdom, where suffering and death are no more and where the faithful rejoice forever in His presence. The Scriptures say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). Through your intercession, may these words become the testimony of my life, and may I one day rejoice with you and all the saints before the throne of God. Amen.

St. Lawrence, faithful servant who persevered unto death, pray for us.
St. Lawrence, obtain for us the grace of final perseverance and eternal life, pray for us. Amen.
