WHY PRAY THE ST. CLARE OF ASSISI NOVENA?
The St. Clare of Assisi Novena is a beautiful nine-day journey of prayer through the intercession of one of the Church's most beloved saints, whose life radiated humility, purity, Eucharistic devotion, and unwavering trust in Jesus Christ. By praying this novena, we ask God to strengthen our faith through the prayers of St. Clare, whose entire life was a living witness that Christ alone is the true treasure of the human heart.
This novena is especially prayed by those seeking to grow in holiness, deepen their relationship with Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, persevere in prayer, trust more fully in God's providence, overcome fear and temptation, live a life of humility and charity, and remain faithful to Christ in every circumstance. Through St. Clare's powerful intercession, we ask for the grace to surrender worldly attachments, embrace God's will with joy, and become faithful disciples who reflect the light of Christ in the world.
Many of the faithful also turn to St. Clare to pray for spiritual protection, healing, peace within families, discernment of God's will, strength during trials, and perseverance in the Christian life. As the Patron Saint of television and telecommunications, she is also invoked for those working in the media and communications, for the responsible use of technology, and for all who proclaim the Gospel through modern means of communication.
Above all, this novena reminds us that holiness is possible for everyone who places complete trust in God. St. Clare teaches us to gaze upon Christ in prayer, adore Him in the Holy Eucharist, serve Him in our brothers and sisters, and remain faithful until the end. Through her maternal intercession and holy example, may this novena draw us closer to Jesus Christ, strengthen our love for His Church, and prepare us to share one day in the eternal joy of Heaven.

ABOUT ST. CLARE OF ASSISI
ABOUT ST. CLARE OF ASSISI
St. Clare of Assisi (1194–1253) was one of the greatest women saints in the history of the Catholic Church. Born into a noble family in Assisi, Italy, she was deeply inspired by the preaching and example of St. Francis of Assisi. At the age of eighteen, Clare left behind her wealth, social status, and comfortable life to dedicate herself entirely to Jesus Christ. On Palm Sunday night in 1212, she secretly left her family home and was received by St. Francis at the little chapel of the Portiuncula, where she renounced worldly riches and embraced a life of poverty, prayer, and complete dependence upon God.
St. Clare founded the Order of Poor Ladies, later known as the Poor Clares, a contemplative religious order dedicated to a life of prayer, Eucharistic devotion, simplicity, and evangelical poverty. She faithfully led her community for more than forty years despite frequent illness and many hardships. Her deep love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament became one of the defining marks of her spirituality. According to tradition, during an attack on the convent of San Damiano, St. Clare courageously held up the Blessed Sacrament in prayer, entrusting her sisters to Christ's protection. Through God's power, the attackers retreated, and the convent was preserved.
St. Clare continually encouraged her sisters to imitate the humility, poverty, and charity of Jesus Christ. She believed that true riches are found not in earthly possessions but in belonging completely to God. Her famous counsel remains a source of inspiration for Christians throughout the world: "Gaze upon Christ, consider Christ, contemplate Christ, imitate Christ." Her life reminds every believer that lasting joy is found in prayer, holiness, trust in God's providence, and faithful perseverance in following Christ.
After a lifetime of heroic virtue, St. Clare died on August 11, 1253, surrounded by her sisters in the Lord. She was canonized only two years later by Pope Alexander IV on September 26, 1255, in recognition of her extraordinary holiness and witness to the Gospel. In 1958, Pope Pius XII declared her the Patron Saint of Television and Telecommunications, inspired by the tradition that, during her final illness, she was miraculously able to see and hear the celebration of Holy Mass from her sickbed.
Today, St. Clare of Assisi continues to inspire the faithful to embrace humility, Eucharistic devotion, prayer, purity of heart, generous charity, and complete trust in God's providence. Her life is a powerful reminder that those who surrender everything to Christ gain the greatest treasure of all eternal life with Him. May her example encourage us to seek first the Kingdom of God and to persevere faithfully until we join her in the everlasting joy of Heaven.

O glorious St. Clare of Assisi, faithful bride of Christ and radiant model of holiness, I come before you today asking for the grace to seek Jesus above every earthly desire. You willingly renounced wealth, comfort, honor, and every worldly attachment in order to belong completely to the Lord. Teach me to hunger first for the Kingdom of God and to place His holy will above my own plans, ambitions, and desires. Help me to recognize that true happiness is found not in the passing things of this world but in a life lived in loving communion with Christ. The Word of God says, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well” (Matthew 6:33). Through your powerful intercession, may my heart always desire Jesus above all else.
O holy St. Clare, obtain for me the grace to detach my heart from everything that draws me away from God. Remove from me every attachment to sin, pride, selfishness, and worldly distractions that prevent me from growing in holiness. Teach me to embrace a spirit of humility, simplicity, and joyful surrender, trusting that God alone is enough for every need of my soul. May I learn to treasure prayer, silence, Sacred Scripture, and the Holy Eucharist, where Christ continually nourishes His people with His saving presence. The Scriptures remind us, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21). Pray that my greatest treasure may always be Jesus Christ.

Pray for those whose hearts have become consumed by worldly ambitions, material possessions, and empty pleasures. Lead back to Christ those who have wandered from the faith, those who have lost hope, and those who struggle to recognize God's loving presence in their lives. May every soul discover the incomparable joy of belonging completely to the Lord. The Word of God declares, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing upon earth that I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25). Through your prayers, may countless hearts be drawn to the love and mercy of Jesus.

O glorious St. Clare of Assisi, humble servant of God and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, I come before you today asking for the grace to walk in true humility before the Lord. You chose the path of simplicity and hiddenness, desiring only to glorify God rather than yourself. Teach me to acknowledge that every good gift comes from the Lord and that apart from Him I can do nothing. Remove from my heart every trace of pride, vanity, selfish ambition, and the desire for human praise. May I always seek to honor God in all that I say, think, and do. The Word of God says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (James 4:6). Through your powerful intercession, may I become humble in heart like Christ.
O holy St. Clare, obtain for me the grace to trust completely in God's loving providence. Teach me never to neglect the gift of prayer, even when I am busy, discouraged, distracted, or spiritually dry. Help me to understand that prayer is not merely a duty but a loving encounter with the God who desires to dwell within me. The Word of God says, "Pray constantly" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). O glorious St. Clare of Assisi, faithful lover of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament, I come before you today asking for the grace to deepen my love for the Holy Eucharist. You found your greatest strength before the Real Presence of Christ, drawing courage, peace, and hope from the Lord who dwelt among His people. When your convent was threatened, you confidently placed your trust in the Eucharistic Lord, believing that nothing is impossible for God. Teach me to approach the altar with profound faith, reverence, and thanksgiving, recognizing that in the Holy Eucharist I receive the true Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. The Word of God says, "I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever" (John 6:51). Through your powerful intercession, may my heart burn with love for Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament.

Throughout your earthly pilgrimage, you remained unwavering in your commitment to Christ despite illness, hardships, opposition, and countless trials. Your confidence was never shaken because your heart was firmly rooted in the love of God. Teach me to remain faithful when my faith is tested, when prayers seem unanswered, and when difficulties tempt me to become discouraged. The Word of God says, "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:23). Through your powerful intercession, may I remain steadfast in Christ no matter what I encounter.
O holy St. Clare, obtain for me the grace to persevere through every spiritual struggle. When temptation seeks to draw me away from God, strengthen me to resist with courage. O glorious St. Clare of Assisi, faithful disciple of Christ and compassionate servant of the poor, I come before you today asking for the grace to love others with the same generous heart that burned within you. You embraced evangelical poverty not merely by renouncing worldly riches but by seeing the face of Christ in the poor, the forgotten, and the suffering. Teach me to recognize that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and love. Remove from my heart every trace of selfishness, indifference, and pride, replacing them with a sincere desire to serve others for the glory of God. The Word of God says, "Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed" (Proverbs 19:17). Through your powerful intercession, may I become a faithful instrument of Christ's mercy.

O glorious St. Clare of Assisi, radiant virgin of Christ and shining example of holiness, I come before you today asking for the grace of purity of heart. You consecrated your entire life to Jesus, keeping your mind, body, and soul devoted to His service. Your greatest desire was to reflect the beauty of Christ through a life of holiness, humility, and faithful obedience. Teach me to seek purity not only in my actions but also in my thoughts, words, intentions, and desires. Remove from my heart everything that displeases God and help me to become a living temple of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Matthew 5:8). Through your powerful intercession, may my heart be cleansed and renewed each day by God's sanctifying grace.
O holy St. Clare, obtain for me the grace to overcome every temptation that seeks to draw me away from Christ. O glorious St. Clare of Assisi, faithful bride of Christ and radiant saint of the Church, as I complete this novena, I come before you asking for the greatest of all graces: the grace of final perseverance and the gift of eternal life. Throughout your earthly pilgrimage, you remained steadfast in faith, unwavering in hope, and fervent in love until the Lord called you into His heavenly Kingdom. You fixed your eyes upon Christ and never allowed suffering, illness, poverty, or trials to separate you from His love. Teach me to live each day in readiness to meet the Lord, remembering that this earthly life is a journey toward the eternal home prepared for those who faithfully love Him. The Word of God says, "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life" (Revelation 2:10). Through your powerful intercession, obtain for me the grace to remain faithful to Christ until my final breath.
O holy St. Clare, help me to use wisely every day that God grants me. Deliver me from spiritual complacency, lukewarmness, and every attachment that keeps me from growing in holiness. Teach me to repent quickly whenever I fall into sin, to seek God's mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and to remain nourished by the Holy Eucharist throughout my life.
