DAY 5: THE KNOT OF FAMILY BURDENS HANDED DOWN THROUGH GENERATIONS
DAY 5: THE KNOT OF FAMILY BURDENS HANDED DOWN THROUGH GENERATIONS
For the grace to surrender every family burden, painful pattern, inherited wound, destructive cycle, and every burden carried from one generation to another into the maternal hands of Mary, Undoer of Knots, asking Jesus Christ to bring healing, restoration, and new life to our families according to the Father's holy will.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church and my loving Mother, today I come before you carrying not only my own burdens but also the burdens that have weighed upon my family for many years. You know the tears that have been shed across generations, the broken relationships, the wounds that were never healed, the divisions that continue to trouble our homes, and the painful patterns that seem to repeat themselves from one generation to another. I place all these into your maternal hands, trusting that nothing is beyond the mercy and transforming power of Jesus Christ.
Mother, remind me that Jesus came "to proclaim release to the captives... to let the oppressed go free" (Luke 4:18). May I receive these words as spoken to my own family today, believing that no burden is too deeply rooted for His grace to heal. Strengthen my faith to believe that if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation; everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). Help me to trust that my family's future is not determined by its painful past but by the saving love of Christ.
When I become discouraged because some burdens have existed for many years, teach me to remember the Lord's promise: "See, I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do I not perceive it?" (Isaiah 43:19). Open my eyes to recognize the quiet ways God is already at work within my family. May I never lose hope, for the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Mother, obtain for me the grace to persevere in prayer until I witness the healing that God desires to bring into my family.
Mary, at the foot of the Cross you received a new family when Jesus entrusted His beloved disciple to your maternal care (John 19:26–27). Receive my family also into your Immaculate Heart. Intercede for each member of my family, especially those who have grown distant from God, those burdened by suffering, those carrying hidden wounds, and those who no longer know where to find hope. Lead us all to Jesus, for He alone is our peace, our healing, and our reconciliation. Amen.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
Psalm 147:3
Every family carries joys and blessings, but many also carry wounds that remain unhealed for years. Misunderstandings, divisions, addictions, violence, rejection, abandonment, poverty, bitterness, and other painful burdens can leave deep scars upon the hearts of parents, children, and future generations. These burdens often seem impossible to overcome, yet the Gospel continually reveals that Jesus enters wounded families not to condemn them but to restore them.
Throughout Sacred Scripture, God delights in bringing healing where there has been brokenness. He reconciled Joseph with the brothers who had betrayed him (Genesis 45:1–15). He restored Naomi's hope through Ruth's faithful love (Ruth 4:13–17). He brought joy to the household of Zacchaeus when salvation entered his home (Luke 19:1–10). The Lord who worked within those families continues to work within ours today. Therefore, I choose not to surrender to discouragement but to entrust my family completely to Jesus through the loving intercession of Mary, Undoer of Knots.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, Mother of Families, today I place into your maternal hands every burden that has troubled my family for many years. I surrender every broken relationship, every misunderstanding, every painful memory, every division, every addiction, every fear, every rejection, every hardship, and every hidden wound that has disturbed the peace of our home. Mother, lead my family to Jesus, who says to me, "Come to Me, all who are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Obtain for each member of my family the grace to experience the peace that only Christ can give.
When painful memories tempt us to lose hope, remind us that the Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love (Psalm 103:8). Help us to believe that as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us (Psalm 103:12). Teach us to forgive one another as Christ has forgiven us (Ephesians 4:32), to bear one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2), and to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts (Colossians 3:15). May every member of my family become an instrument of reconciliation, healing, and love.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, I now pause before you and place into your maternal hands every burden affecting my family today. (Silently mention the family members, situations, and intentions you desire to entrust to Our Blessed Mother.) Present each one before Jesus. Pray that He may heal what is wounded, restore what has been broken, strengthen what has grown weak, and renew every heart with the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the words of Joshua become the desire of our family: "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15).
Loving Mother, while I ask you to intercede for the burdens carried within my family, also heal my own heart. Remove every bitterness, every resentment, every judgment, and every lack of charity that prevents me from loving my family as Christ loves me. Fill me with the fruit of the Holy Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). May my life become a witness that Jesus truly heals wounded hearts and restores families. Lead us always to Him, so that our home may become a place where faith grows, forgiveness flourishes, and the love of God reigns forever. Amen.
This Chaplet is prayed when your family is burdened by painful patterns, broken relationships, long-standing conflicts, emotional wounds, addictions, division, rejection, or other burdens that have been carried from one generation to another. As you pray, entrust your family completely to the maternal intercession of Mary, Undoer of Knots, believing that Jesus Christ came "to proclaim release to the captives... to let the oppressed go free" (Luke 4:18) and that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3).
Today, I pray this Chaplet especially for the knot of family burdens handed down through generations, asking Jesus to restore every family according to the Father's loving will and to make all things new through the power of His grace.
Before beginning the Chaplet, quietly place before the Lord every burden affecting your family, every painful memory, every broken relationship, every inherited struggle, every wound, and every person you desire to entrust to His mercy through the maternal intercession of Mary.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, receive these intentions into your maternal hands and present them before Jesus, believing that nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).
Mother Mary, Undoer of Knots, today I bring before you my entire family. I place into your maternal hands every burden that has remained for years, every wound that has never fully healed, every misunderstanding, every division, every painful memory, and every hidden sorrow. Lead my family to Jesus, for He has come that we may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). Help us to receive His peace, believing that if the Son makes us free, we shall be free indeed (John 8:36). May His mercy renew every heart, restore every relationship, and fill our home with His abiding presence. Amen.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
(Pray for the virtues needed for healing and restoration within the family.)
1. Mother Mary, Undoer of Knots, obtain for my family the grace of forgiveness. (One Hail Mary)
2. Mother Mary, Undoer of Knots, obtain for my family the grace of reconciliation. (One Hail Mary)

Mother Mary, protect my family whenever we are tempted to repeat the mistakes of the past, to respond with anger instead of love, or to allow division to grow among us. Help us remember that love is patient and kind... it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends (1 Corinthians 13:4, 7–8).
Virgin Mary, Mother of Fair Love, obtain for my family the grace to overcome every temptation that weakens our unity. Teach us to choose love over resentment and peace over conflict.

One Hail Mary and One Glory Be.
Holy Mother, beloved Undoer of Knots, thank you for receiving every burden I have placed into your maternal hands today. Thank you for carrying before Jesus every wounded heart, every broken relationship, every painful memory, and every family struggle. May the Holy Spirit renew our home with love, forgiveness, peace, and unity. Teach us to pray together, to forgive quickly, to love generously, and to keep Jesus at the Centre of our family. May our household become a place where faith is lived, hope is renewed, and God's love is reflected each day. Amen.
O Mary, Undoer of Knots, intercede for my family and untie every burden that weighs upon us.
O Mary, Undoer of Knots, obtain for our family healing, reconciliation, and lasting peace.
O Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for all families carrying long-standing burdens, that they may experience the healing love of Jesus Christ. Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Mary, Mother full of grace and Undoer of Knots, today I entrust my family completely into your maternal hands. You know every burden that has been carried from one generation to another, every wound that has remained hidden, every painful memory that still brings tears, every division that has weakened our unity, and every struggle that has deprived us of peace. Yet I come before you with confidence because Jesus came "to proclaim release to the captives... to let the oppressed go free" (Luke 4:18). Mother, lead every member of my family to Jesus, believing that His saving grace is greater than every burden we carry and that His mercy is able to renew what sin and suffering have wounded.
When I become discouraged because some family burdens seem never-ending, remind me that the Lord says, "Can a woman forget her nursing child...? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands" (Isaiah 49:15–16). Help me to receive these words as God's promise to my family, believing that we have never been forgotten nor abandoned. Strengthen my hope with His assurance that "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is His faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22–23). Teach me to trust that each new day brings fresh grace for every burden we carry.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, intercede for every relationship within my family that has been wounded by anger, misunderstanding, harsh words, or unforgiveness. Help us to obey the Word of God, "Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and slander be put away from me... Let me be kind to others, tenderhearted, forgiving as God in Christ has forgiven me" (cf. Ephesians 4:31–32). Where love has grown cold, rekindle charity. Where trust has been broken, restore confidence. Where silence has replaced communication, open hearts to reconciliation. May the peace of Christ rule within our family, and may we bear with one another in love (Colossians 3:13–15).
Loving Mother, you remained faithfully beside Jesus at the foot of the Cross, trusting that suffering would never have the final word. Obtain for me the grace to remain faithful while praying for my family. When I cannot see immediate change, remind me that I shall not grow weary in doing good, for in due season I shall reap if I do not lose heart (cf. Galatians 6:9). May I continue praying with confidence until every burden surrendered into your maternal hands becomes an occasion for God's mercy, healing, and glory. Lead my entire family ever closer to Jesus, that our home may become a dwelling place of faith, hope, love, and lasting peace. Amen.
Mary, my Mother, today I surrender into your loving care my entire family. I place before you every burden that has troubled us, every painful memory that still needs healing, every relationship that longs for reconciliation, every hidden struggle known only to God, and every family member who has wandered far from the Lord. Receive them into your Immaculate Heart and present each one to Jesus, believing that nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).
Teach me to surrender not only my family but also my own heart. Help me to trust the Lord with all my heart and not depend upon my own understanding. As I acknowledge Him in every concern, every sorrow, and every prayer for my family, obtain for me the grace to believe that He will make my paths straight (cf. Proverbs 3:5–6). Remove from my heart every resentment, impatience, fear, and discouragement. Fill me instead with the peace of Christ, remembering His promise, "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27). May I become an instrument of unity, forgiveness, and hope within my family, always seeking to reflect the love of Jesus in my words and actions. Amen.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, as I complete this fifth day, I place once more into your maternal hands every burden affecting my family. I entrust to you every generation that came before me, every member of my family living today, and those who will come after us. May the grace of Jesus Christ touch every heart, heal every wound, restore every broken relationship, and strengthen every home that calls upon His holy name.
Mother, whenever I become discouraged because healing seems slow, remind me that the Lord is faithful in all His words and gracious in all His deeds (Psalm 145:13). Help me to believe that He who began His good work within my family will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6). Strengthen me to persevere in prayer, to forgive without counting the cost, to love without growing weary, and to trust without doubting God's perfect timing.
May this fifth day deepen my confidence in the healing power of Jesus Christ, strengthen the bonds of love within my family, and renew our desire to walk together in faith. May every burden handed down through generations be transformed by God's grace into a legacy of faith, hope, holiness, and charity. Through your maternal intercession, may our family continually proclaim with Joshua, "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15). Amen.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for us.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.
Mary, Queen of Families, pray for us.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we trust in You. Amen.
