DAY 15: THE KNOT OF BONDAGE TO ADDICTION
DAY 15: THE KNOT OF BONDAGE TO ADDICTION
For the grace to surrender to Mary, Undoer of Knots, every bondage to addiction that has become difficult to break: every dependence on alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography, sexual impurity, compulsive behaviours, destructive habits, or anything that has gained control over my life and weakened my freedom. May Jesus Christ break every chain that keeps me returning to what I sincerely desire to leave behind, heal the wounds beneath the addiction, restore my self-control and dignity, and lead me into genuine freedom, holiness, peace, and a renewed life in Him.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy and my loving Mother, today I come before you carrying the knot of addiction that has become a bondage in my life. You know the habit I have tried to overcome, the times I promised myself that I would stop and then found myself returning to it, the secret battles no one sees, the shame that follows after I fall again, and the emptiness that can make me seek temporary relief in something that ultimately wounds me. You know how this bondage can affect my mind, my relationships, my work, my prayer, my finances, my dignity, and my relationship with Jesus. Mother, I place this entire struggle into your maternal hands and ask you to bring it before Jesus. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "The Lord will fight for me, and I have only to keep still" (Exodus 14:14). May I understand that I am not abandoned in this battle and that Jesus can fight for me even when I feel too weak to fight for myself.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, when addiction tells me that I will never be free, lead me to Jesus, who has the power to restore what has been broken. When temptation becomes strong, obtain for me the grace to turn away before I fall. When I fall, prevent shame from convincing me that I should remain down. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "He brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me, because He delighted in me" (Psalm 18:19). May Jesus bring me out of every narrow place in which addiction has imprisoned me. Give me courage to seek the help I need, honesty to acknowledge the seriousness of my bondage, perseverance to continue after setbacks, and humility to accept the support through which God may choose to lead me toward freedom. Amen.
"If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed."
John 8:36
Addiction can become one of the most painful knots because it can make me feel divided within myself. One part of me may sincerely desire freedom while another part continues to crave what has enslaved me. I may know that something is damaging me and still find myself returning to it. I may pray for deliverance at night and struggle with temptation again the next day. Over time, repeated falls can produce shame, secrecy, self-hatred, and the frightening belief that change is impossible. But Jesus does not look at me merely through the history of my failures. He sees the person I can become through His grace, and He calls me toward freedom.
Scripture does not treat bondage lightly. Jesus speaks about the reality of slavery to sin, but He also reveals Himself as the One who brings freedom. St. Paul teaches that I should not allow sin to reign in my mortal body or make myself obedient to its desires (Romans 6:12). He also teaches that I am not without hope because the Spirit of God gives life and freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). This means that the battle must be taken seriously, but I do not have to believe that the battle will last forever. I can bring my weakness into the light of Christ, reject the lie that I am permanently condemned to my past, and cooperate with the grace God gives me one step at a time.
Today, through Mary, Undoer of Knots, I bring the root of this bondage before Jesus. I bring not only the behaviour itself but also the loneliness, wounds, rejection, emptiness, stress, fear, grief, anger, or other pain that may have made me seek escape through it. I ask Jesus to heal what lies beneath the addiction and to restore the freedom that has been weakened. May He break every chain that is truly binding me, strengthen my will, renew my mind, purify my desires, and give me the courage to seek appropriate help and accountability. May I no longer hide from the light of Christ. May every day become another step away from bondage and another step toward the freedom for which Jesus has called me.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, Mother of Mercy, today I place into your maternal hands the addiction that has become a chain around my life. You know the habit I cannot seem to break, the substance I continue returning to, the behaviour I repeatedly fall into, the temptation that appears stronger than my resolve, and the shame I experience afterward. You know how many times I have told myself that this would be the last time and how painful it is when I find myself returning again. Mother, do not allow me to surrender to the lie that I can never change. Take this knot before Jesus and ask Him to awaken within me a new determination to seek freedom. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless" (Isaiah 40:29). May the strength of Jesus meet me precisely where my own strength has failed.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, untie the knot of compulsive desire that keeps pulling me back toward what I know is destroying my peace. Untie the knot of secrecy that makes me hide my struggle. Untie the knot of shame that tells me I am worthless because I have fallen. Untie the knot of despair that tells me there is no point in trying again. Ask Jesus to renew my mind and purify my desires. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "He has redeemed my life from the Pit, and crowned me with steadfast love and mercy" (Psalm 103:4). May Jesus restore the dignity that addiction has wounded. May He teach me to see myself not as a hopeless prisoner but as a person whom He desires to restore, heal, and lead into freedom.
Mary, I now bring before you the particular addiction that has become a bondage in my life. (Mention it silently before God.) I bring the substance, behaviour, habit, or compulsion that I have struggled to control. I bring the times I have fallen, the consequences I have suffered, the relationships that have been wounded, the opportunities I have lost, the money I have wasted, and the peace I have surrendered. Mother, place all of this before Jesus and ask Him to give me courage to face the truth without running away from it. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free" (John 8:32). May I have the courage to stop hiding from what is destroying me and the humility to receive whatever help, guidance, accountability, treatment, prayer, or support may become part of the path toward my freedom.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, break the chains of temptation that have become stronger through repetition. When the urge comes, obtain for me the grace to pause, pray, turn away, and seek help rather than surrendering immediately. When I feel lonely, lead me toward healthy companionship. When I am wounded, lead me toward healing rather than escape. When I am stressed, teach me to seek Jesus rather than the temporary comfort of addiction. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "God is faithful, and He will not let me be tested beyond my strength, but with the testing He will also provide the way out so that I may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). May Jesus show me the way out when temptation comes and give me the courage to take it. May I never mistake temptation for destiny or a craving for a command that I must obey. Amen.
This Chaplet is prayed today for the knot of addiction and every form of bondage that has taken away my freedom. I place before Jesus every dependence, every destructive habit, every compulsive behaviour, every temptation, every relapse, every secret struggle, and every wound that has contributed to this bondage. Through the maternal intercession of Mary, Undoer of Knots, I ask Jesus to break every chain, renew my mind, strengthen my will, heal the roots of my addiction, and lead me toward genuine freedom.
I now pray this Chaplet especially for the addiction or bondage that weighs most heavily upon my heart, trusting that Jesus knows the battle I am fighting even when no one else understands it.
Before beginning the Chaplet, I quietly name before God the particular bondage from which I desire freedom.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, take this chain into your maternal hands and lead me to Jesus, the One who alone can make me truly free.
Mother Mary, Undoer of Knots, I come before you carrying the bondage that has repeatedly defeated my attempts to change. I place before you my cravings, temptations, falls, shame, and fear of never becoming free. Lead me to Jesus and obtain for me the courage to face this struggle honestly, the humility to seek help, and the perseverance to continue fighting for freedom even after setbacks. Amen.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
1. Mother Mary, Undoer of Knots, obtain for me freedom from every destructive bondage. (One Hail Mary.)

Virgin Mary, Mother of Fair Love, obtain for me the grace to recognize temptation early and the courage to turn away before I fall.

May Jesus heal the pain, emptiness, rejection, loneliness, trauma, grief, or other wounds that I have tried to escape through this bondage.
Virgin Mary, Mother of Fair Love, ask Jesus to heal the roots of my bondage rather than allowing me only to fight its outward expression. Lead me toward the healing I truly need.

Virgin Mary, Mother of Fair Love, obtain for me perseverance until the chains are broken and my life becomes increasingly ordered toward Christ. May I never call myself hopeless when Jesus is still working within me.
Our Father...

Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me. (10 times.)
One Hail Mary and One Glory Be.
Holy Mother, beloved Undoer of Knots, I thank you for receiving this painful bondage into your maternal hands. I surrender every addiction, every temptation, every craving, every relapse, every secret struggle, and every wound connected with this battle. I ask Jesus to break what has enslaved me and to restore the freedom that addiction has stolen. May He give me courage to face the truth, humility to receive help, wisdom to avoid situations that lead me toward temptation, and perseverance to continue even when freedom does not come as quickly as I desire.
Mother, remain beside me when temptation comes. Lead me to Jesus before I return to what has wounded me. When I am lonely, lead me toward healthy companionship. When I am wounded, lead me toward healing. When I fall, lead me back to repentance. When I become discouraged, remind me that God's grace has not abandoned me. May Jesus gradually restore every area of my life that addiction has damaged and lead me into a freedom that is not merely freedom from a habit, but freedom to love, to pray, to serve, to live responsibly, and to become the person God created me to be. Amen.
O Mary, Undoer of Knots, intercede for me and untie every knot of addiction that has become a chain around my life.
O Mary, Undoer of Knots, obtain for me strength to resist temptation, courage to seek help, and perseverance to continue toward freedom.
O Mary, Undoer of Knots, lead me to Jesus Christ, who has promised me: "If the Son makes me free, I will be free indeed." Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, Mother of Mercy, today I place into your maternal hands the addiction that has become a bondage in my life. You know the habit I cannot seem to break, the temptation that repeatedly overcomes me, the moments when I sincerely desire to change but find myself returning to the same behaviour. You know the shame I carry afterward, the promises I have broken, the people I may have hurt, the opportunities I have lost, and the way this bondage has affected my relationship with Jesus. Mother, take this knot before Him and ask Him to restore my freedom. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1). May the fear of never changing be replaced by confidence in the power and mercy of Jesus.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, untie the knot of craving that keeps drawing me back. Untie the knot of secrecy that makes me hide my struggle. Untie the knot of shame that makes me hate myself after I fall. Untie the knot of despair that tells me there is no point in trying again. Ask Jesus to renew my mind, strengthen my will, and heal the wounds beneath this bondage. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "He satisfies the thirsty, and the hungry He fills with good things" (Psalm 107:9). May Jesus satisfy the emptiness within me that I have tried to fill with temporary pleasures. May He become the refuge I seek when I am hurting, lonely, stressed, rejected, afraid, or exhausted.
Beloved Mother, I surrender this battle completely to Jesus while accepting my responsibility to cooperate with His grace. Help me take concrete steps toward freedom. Give me courage to remove myself from occasions of temptation, humility to seek appropriate professional or spiritual help, strength to accept accountability, and perseverance to continue after setbacks. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). May Jesus come close to every wounded place within me. May He heal what addiction has been covering, restore what it has damaged, and teach me to seek healthy and holy ways of responding to pain. Mary, Undoer of Knots, lead me to Jesus until this chain is broken and my life becomes a testimony of His mercy and transforming grace. Amen.
Mary, my Mother, I surrender to Jesus the addiction I have struggled to overcome. I surrender my cravings, my memories of past falls, my fear of future temptation, and the shame I have carried because of this bondage. I surrender the belief that I must fight everything alone. Strengthen my heart with God's promise that: "The Lord is my shepherd; He restores my soul" (cf. Psalm 23:1, 3). May Jesus restore my soul where addiction has weakened it and lead me along the path of life.
Mother Mary, help me surrender not only the addiction but also the things that keep feeding it. May Jesus show me what environments, relationships, habits, thoughts, wounds, or situations I must change. Give me the courage to cooperate with grace and the patience to understand that genuine healing can require time, support, perseverance, and repeated choices for what is good. I place my past, my present struggle, and my future freedom into the hands of Jesus. May His grace lead me one faithful step at a time. Amen.
Mary, Undoer of Knots, as I complete this fifteenth day, I place this bondage completely before Jesus. I no longer want addiction to dictate my decisions, control my desires, steal my peace, damage my relationships, consume my resources, or distance me from God. I ask Jesus to break every chain that binds me and to give me the courage to cooperate with the grace He gives me. May He restore my dignity, renew my mind, strengthen my will, and heal the wounds that have kept me searching for escape in destructive things.
Mother, remain beside me throughout this journey toward freedom. When temptation comes, lead me to Jesus. When I am weak, lead me to the help I need. When I fall, lead me back to mercy. When I succeed, keep me humble and vigilant. May every day bring me closer to genuine freedom, not merely freedom from a particular habit, but freedom to live fully in Christ. Through your maternal intercession, may Jesus untie this knot and make my life increasingly a witness to His mercy, healing, and saving power. Amen.
