“Walking with Mary to the Foot of the Cross”
Sign of the Cross
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Opening Prayer
O God of compassion and unfailing love, as we continue this sacred Lenten journey, we come before You carrying the pain that enters our hearts when those we love suffer. You created us to love one another deeply, and because of this love, the suffering of others often becomes our own suffering. In those moments, our hearts feel helpless as we watch those dear to us endure trials we cannot remove.
Through the Sorrowful Heart of Mary, grant us the grace to remain strong in faith when the people we love are struggling. When our hearts are wounded by their pain, remind us that You are always present beside them. Help us to trust that Your mercy is at work even in the darkest moments. May this day of prayer strengthen our hope and deepen our compassion. Amen.
Meditation
O Sorrowful Mother, today we reflect on your fifth sorrow: standing at the foot of the Cross as your beloved Son was crucified. You witnessed His suffering, His wounds, His humiliation, and His final breath. Your motherly heart endured unimaginable sorrow as you watched the One you loved most suffer before your eyes.
Mother, many of us know the pain of watching someone we love go through suffering. We see our parents grow weak, our children struggle, our spouses carry heavy burdens, or our friends endure illness and hardship. Often we wish we could take their pain upon ourselves, yet we feel powerless to change their situation.
Teach us how you remained faithful in that painful moment at Calvary. You did not turn away from the Cross, even when your heart was breaking. You remained present, loving your Son with quiet strength and unwavering trust in God’s plan.
Loving Mother, we bring before you those who are suffering today. Our family members who are sick, our loved ones facing financial struggles, our friends battling hidden pain, and those whose lives seem overwhelmed by difficulties. We place them gently into your maternal care.
Help us to remember that when we cannot change a situation, we can still offer love, prayer, and faith. Just as you stood beside Jesus in His suffering, teach us to stand beside those who need our presence, encouragement, and compassion.
O Mother of Sorrows, comfort our hearts when we feel helpless before the suffering of others. Strengthen us to support them with patience and love. May our prayers and sacrifices become instruments of grace for those we cherish.
Novena Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows
O Blessed Mother of Sorrows, who stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross as your Son gave His life for the salvation of the world, look with compassion upon us when our hearts are wounded by the suffering of those we love. You understand the sorrow that comes from witnessing the pain of another.
Mother, obtain for us the grace to remain faithful in love even when suffering surrounds us. When we feel powerless to help those we care about, remind us that prayer and trust in God’s mercy can accomplish what human strength cannot.
We place before you today all the people we love who are experiencing hardship. Those who are sick in body or mind, those burdened by financial struggles, those facing discouragement, and those walking through difficult seasons of life. Present them to your Son and ask Him to pour His healing and peace into their lives.
(Mention your personal intention here…)
O Mother who remained beside Jesus in His agony, remain beside us and those we love in their moments of suffering. Strengthen their hearts and fill them with hope that does not fade.
Holy Mother of Sorrows, teach us to unite our prayers and sacrifices with the Passion of Christ so that grace may reach those who need it most. Lead us through this Lenten journey until we stand with you at Calvary and witness the victory of God’s redeeming love. Amen.
Prayer in Honor of the Fifth Sorrow of Mary
Mary Stands at the Foot of the Cross
Most Sorrowful Mother, how deep was your sorrow when you stood beneath the Cross and witnessed the suffering and death of your beloved Son. Your heart was pierced with grief, yet you remained faithful, offering your Son to the Father for the salvation of the world.
O Queen of Martyrs, obtain for me the grace to remain faithful in love when those I care about suffer. Help me to support them with patience, prayer, and compassion, trusting that God’s mercy is greater than every trial.
Hail Mary… (7 times)
Prayer to Our Sorrowful Mother for a Particular Grace
O Mother most holy and sorrowful, Queen of Martyrs, you who stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross, look kindly upon me as I kneel before you today. By the sorrow you endured while witnessing the suffering of your Son and by your unwavering faith, receive my prayer offered with humility and trust.
Loving Mother, because your Son refuses you nothing, present my petition before His Sacred Heart. Ask Him to hear my prayer and grant it according to His most holy and perfect will. Through the merits of His Sacred Passion and your faithful suffering, I humbly pray:
(Mention your intention here…)
Mother most merciful, in my weakness and concern for those I love, I turn to you. Offer to Jesus one drop of His Precious Blood and one loving plea from your Sorrowful Heart on my behalf. Remind Him that you are our sweetness, our life, and our hope. Confident in your maternal intercession, I trust that my prayer will be answered according to God’s loving will. Amen.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
Closing Prayer
O Lord Jesus Christ, through the loving intercession of Your Sorrowful Mother, receive the prayers we have offered today. Give us strength to remain faithful in love when those around us suffer. Fill our hearts with compassion and grant us the grace to support others with patience, prayer, and hope.
Bless us, protect our families, and bring comfort to those who are struggling. As we continue walking with Mary to the Foot of the Cross, may our love become a reflection of Your mercy and our prayers a source of grace for those in need. We entrust ourselves and those we love into Your hands, now and forever. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be to…
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
