“Walking with Mary to the Foot of the Cross”
Sign of the Cross
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Opening Prayer
O God of strength and mercy, as we continue this sacred Lenten journey, we come before You aware that the road of life often leads us through suffering. You call us not only to share in the joy of Your blessings but also to carry the crosses that shape and purify our hearts. Grant us the grace to walk faithfully on the path You have prepared for us.
Through the Sorrowful Heart of Mary, help us to accept the crosses we encounter in our daily lives. When trials become heavy and burdens seem overwhelming, remind us that Your grace is always sufficient. May this time of prayer strengthen our hearts so that we may carry our crosses with patience, courage, and trust in Your loving plan. Amen.
Meditation
O Sorrowful Mother, today we reflect on your fourth sorrow: the moment you met Jesus carrying His Cross on the way to Calvary. Your eyes met the eyes of your suffering Son, and in that silent encounter your heart was pierced with immeasurable sorrow. You saw His wounds, His exhaustion, His humiliation, and yet you remained beside Him in love.
Mother, many of us know what it means to meet our cross on the road of life. We encounter burdens we never expected to carry struggles in our families, disappointments in our work, sickness in our bodies, and battles within our hearts. At times, the path feels steep and lonely, and we wonder how long the journey will last.
Teach us how you remained faithful in that painful moment. You did not turn away from the suffering of your Son. Instead, you stood with Him, offering silent strength and unwavering love. Help us to face our own crosses with the same courage and faith.
Loving Mother, we bring before you the crosses we carry today. The responsibilities that weigh heavily on us, the sacrifices we must make, the misunderstandings we endure, and the silent struggles that others may not see. Hold us close when we feel tired and discouraged.
Help us to understand that the Cross is not the end of the story. Just as the road to Calvary led to the glory of the Resurrection, so too our suffering can lead to grace and transformation. Teach us to unite our crosses with the Cross of Christ so that they may become sources of redemption.
O Mother of Sorrows, walk beside us as we carry our burdens. Give us strength when we are weak and hope when we are weary. May every cross we encounter become an opportunity to grow in love, faith, and perseverance.
Novena Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows
O Blessed Mother of Sorrows, who walked beside your Son on the road to Calvary, look with compassion upon us as we struggle with the crosses of our lives. You understand the pain of witnessing suffering and the strength required to remain faithful in the midst of trials.
Mother, obtain for us the grace to accept our crosses with patience and trust. When we feel overwhelmed by the burdens placed upon us, remind us that we do not carry them alone. Help us to find strength in the example of Jesus and comfort in your loving presence.
We place before you today all the crosses we carry struggles within our families, challenges in our work, financial burdens, sickness, disappointments, and hidden sorrows. Intercede for us before your Son so that our suffering may be transformed by His grace.
(Mention your personal intention here…)
O Mother who met Jesus on His painful journey, walk with us on our own path of suffering. Strengthen our hearts and help us to persevere with faith and hope.
Holy Mother of Sorrows, teach us to unite every hardship with the Passion of Christ so that our trials may bear spiritual fruit. Lead us through this Lenten journey with renewed courage until we stand with you at the Foot of the Cross and witness the triumph of God’s love. Amen.
Prayer in Honor of the Fourth Sorrow of Mary
Mary Meets Jesus on the Way to Calvary
Most Sorrowful Mother, how great was your pain when you met your beloved Son carrying His heavy Cross on the way to Calvary. The sight of His suffering pierced your heart, yet you remained strong in faith and love, sharing in His sacrifice with silent courage.
O Queen of Martyrs, obtain for me the grace to carry my crosses with patience and trust. When I encounter suffering on the road of life, help me to unite my pain with the suffering of Jesus and to remain faithful even in the midst of trials.
Hail Mary… (7 times)
Prayer to Our Sorrowful Mother for a Particular Grace
O Mother most holy and sorrowful, Queen of Martyrs, you who met your Son on the way to Calvary and shared deeply in His suffering, look kindly upon me as I kneel before you today. By the sorrow you experienced on that painful road and by your faithful love for your Son, receive my prayer offered with humility and trust.
Loving Mother, because your Son refuses you nothing, present my petition before His Sacred Heart. Ask Him to hear my prayer and grant it according to His most holy and perfect will. Through the merits of His Sacred Passion and your own sufferings, I humbly pray:
(Mention your intention here…)
Mother most merciful, in my weakness and hardship I turn to you. Offer to Jesus one drop of His Precious Blood and one loving plea from your Sorrowful Heart on my behalf. Remind Him that you are our sweetness, our life, and our hope. Confident in your maternal intercession, I trust that my prayer will be answered according to God’s loving will. Amen.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
Closing Prayer
O Lord Jesus Christ, through the loving intercession of Your Sorrowful Mother, receive the prayers we have offered today. Give us strength to carry the crosses placed upon our lives and the courage to follow You faithfully on the road of sacrifice.
Bless us, protect our families, and grant us perseverance in times of trial. As we continue walking with Mary to the Foot of the Cross, may our suffering draw us closer to You and lead us toward the hope of resurrection. We entrust ourselves completely to You, now and forever. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be to…
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
