“Walking with Mary to the Foot of the Cross”
Sign of the Cross
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Opening Prayer
O God of mercy and eternal hope, as we continue this sacred Lenten journey, we come before You with hearts that sometimes struggle to understand Your ways. There are moments in life when everything becomes quiet and uncertain, when our prayers seem to echo back in silence and our hopes feel buried beneath the weight of disappointment. In these moments we are tempted to believe that You are distant, yet Your Word reminds us that You are always near, even when we cannot feel Your presence.
Through the Sorrowful Heart of Mary, strengthen our faith during times of silence and waiting. When our hearts feel discouraged and when answers do not come as quickly as we desire, grant us the grace to trust Your divine plan. Teach us that Your love continues working quietly even in moments that seem dark and empty. May this time of prayer help us surrender our doubts and renew our confidence in Your faithful promises. Amen.
Meditation
O Sorrowful Mother, today we reflect on your seventh sorrow: the burial of your beloved Son. After witnessing His suffering and death, you watched as His body was laid in the tomb. The stone was rolled into place, and silence filled the air. The One who had brought hope to the world now rested in darkness, and everything seemed finished.
Mother, many of us know what it feels like to stand in moments of silence like this. There are seasons in life when our prayers seem unanswered, when our efforts appear fruitless, and when the future feels hidden behind a heavy stone. We may feel as though our hopes have been buried and that the light we once saw has faded.
Teach us how you endured that painful silence. You had heard the promises of God and witnessed the miracles of your Son, yet now everything seemed still and uncertain. Even in that moment, you continued to believe that God’s plan was greater than what your eyes could see.
Loving Mother, we bring before you the situations in our lives that feel like tombs. The dreams that appear buried, the prayers that seem delayed, the struggles that continue without visible change, and the questions that remain unanswered. Hold our hearts when discouragement begins to take root within us.
Help us to understand that God often works in hidden ways. The silence of the tomb was not the end of the story, but the quiet preparation for the miracle of the Resurrection. Remind us that when we cannot see God working, He is still bringing about His perfect plan.
O Mother of Sorrows, walk with us in our seasons of waiting. Strengthen our faith when hope feels distant and renew our trust in God’s promises. May we learn to believe that even in silence, God is preparing new life, new grace, and new beginnings.
Novena Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows
O Blessed Mother of Sorrows, who stood in sorrow as the body of your Son was laid in the tomb, look with compassion upon us when our lives seem surrounded by silence and uncertainty. You understand the pain of waiting and the struggle of believing when hope appears distant.
Mother, obtain for us the grace to remain faithful when our prayers seem unanswered. Help us to trust that God’s timing is always perfect and that His plans are guided by wisdom and love. When discouragement threatens to weaken our faith, remind us that the story of salvation did not end in the tomb.
We place before you today all the situations in our lives that feel buried beneath disappointment or delay. The hopes we carry in our hearts, the prayers we have repeated many times, and the struggles that continue without clear resolution. Present them before your Son and ask Him to renew our hope.
(Mention your personal intention here…)
O Mother who waited in faith during the silence of the tomb, teach us to wait with patience and trust. Strengthen our hearts so that we may continue walking with confidence even when we do not see immediate answers.
Holy Mother of Sorrows, guide us through this Lenten journey and help us believe that every cross and every silence can lead to resurrection. Lead us faithfully until we reach the joy that God has prepared for those who trust in Him. Amen.
Prayer in Honor of the Seventh Sorrow of Mary
The Burial of Jesus
Most Sorrowful Mother, how great was your grief when the body of your beloved Son was placed in the tomb. Your heart was filled with sorrow as you left the place where He rested, yet you remained faithful to God’s promises even in the silence of that moment.
O Queen of Martyrs, obtain for me the grace to trust God even when I cannot understand His ways. When my hopes seem buried and my prayers seem unanswered, help me to remember that God is always working beyond what I can see.
Hail Mary… (7 times)
Prayer to Our Sorrowful Mother for a Particular Grace
O Mother most holy and sorrowful, Queen of Martyrs, you who endured the sorrow of leaving your Son in the tomb, look kindly upon me as I kneel before you today. By the pain you experienced in that moment of separation and by your unwavering trust in God’s promise, receive my prayer offered with humility and hope.
Loving Mother, because your Son refuses you nothing, present my petition before His Sacred Heart. Ask Him to hear my prayer and grant it according to His most holy and perfect will. Through the merits of His Sacred Passion and your sorrowful intercession, I humbly pray:
(Mention your intention here…)
Mother most merciful, in moments when my heart feels weary and discouraged, I turn to you with trust. Offer to Jesus one drop of His Precious Blood and one loving plea from your Sorrowful Heart on my behalf. Remind Him that you are our sweetness, our life, and our hope. Confident in your maternal intercession, I trust that my prayer will be answered according to God’s loving will. Amen.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
Closing Prayer
O Lord Jesus Christ, through the loving intercession of Your Sorrowful Mother, receive the prayers we have offered today. When we experience silence and uncertainty, strengthen our faith and help us trust that Your plans are always guided by love and wisdom. Remind us that every cross we carry and every moment of waiting can become a path leading us closer to You.
Bless us, protect our families, and grant us perseverance in times of trial. As we continue walking with Mary to the Foot of the Cross, renew our hope and deepen our trust in Your promises. May we remain faithful until the day when sorrow is transformed into joy and Your glory is revealed in our lives. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be to…
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
