“Walking with Mary to the Foot of the Cross”
Sign of the Cross
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Opening Prayer
O God of all consolation, as we continue this sacred Lenten journey, we come before You with hearts that sometimes carry the deep pain of loss. You know the sorrow that fills the human heart when someone we love is taken from us. In those moments of grief, words often fail and tears become our only prayer.
Through the Sorrowful Heart of Mary, comfort us in times of mourning and sorrow. When grief weighs heavily upon our hearts, remind us that Your love is stronger than death and that those who belong to You are held forever in Your mercy. May this time of prayer bring healing to wounded hearts and strengthen our hope in the promise of eternal life. Amen.
Meditation
O Sorrowful Mother, today we reflect on your sixth sorrow: when the lifeless body of Jesus was taken down from the Cross and placed into your arms. The Son you had carried in your womb, the Child you had nurtured with tender love, now rested silently in your embrace. Your heart was filled with grief beyond words.
Mother, many of us know the pain of losing someone we love. We have stood beside hospital beds, gravesides, and moments of farewell that changed our lives forever. The absence left behind can feel unbearable, and the silence that follows loss can be deeply painful.
Teach us how you endured that moment of sorrow. Though your heart was broken, you did not lose faith in God’s promises. Even while holding the body of your Son, you trusted that death would not have the final word.
Loving Mother, we bring before you the loved ones we have lost. The family members, friends, and companions whose presence once filled our lives with joy. We remember them with gratitude and place them into your loving care.
Comfort us when grief returns unexpectedly and when memories awaken tears in our hearts. Help us to believe that those who die in Christ are never truly lost but live forever in God’s eternal embrace.
O Mother of Sorrows, console us in our mourning and strengthen our faith in the resurrection. May our tears become prayers and our sorrow become hope, knowing that God will one day reunite His children in everlasting life.
Novena Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows
O Blessed Mother of Sorrows, who received the body of your Son into your arms after His death on the Cross, look with compassion upon us in our grief. You understand the sorrow of losing someone dearly loved and the pain of saying farewell.
Mother, obtain for us the grace to trust in God’s mercy even in the face of death. When our hearts are filled with sorrow, remind us that Christ conquered death through His resurrection and opened the gates of eternal life.
We place before you today the souls of those we have lost and those whose absence we still mourn. We entrust them to the mercy of your Son and ask that they may rest in the peace of His kingdom.
(Mention your personal intention here…)
O Mother who held the body of Jesus with tender love, hold us also in our sorrow and comfort our grieving hearts. Help us to live with faith, knowing that death is not the end but the beginning of eternal life with God.
Holy Mother of Sorrows, teach us to unite our grief with the Passion of Christ so that our sorrow may become a source of grace and hope. Lead us through this Lenten journey until we reach the joy of the Resurrection promised by your Son. Amen.
Prayer in Honor of the Sixth Sorrow of Mary
Mary Receives the Body of Jesus
Most Sorrowful Mother, how deep was your anguish when the body of your beloved Son was placed in your arms after His death upon the Cross. Your heart was pierced with grief, yet you accepted God’s will with humble trust and steadfast faith.
O Queen of Martyrs, obtain for me the grace to trust in God’s mercy even in times of great loss. When sorrow enters my life, help me to remember that Christ has conquered death and that those who die in Him shall live forever.
Hail Mary… (7 times)
Prayer to Our Sorrowful Mother for a Particular Grace
O Mother most holy and sorrowful, Queen of Martyrs, you who received the lifeless body of your Son into your arms with tender love and deep sorrow, look kindly upon me as I kneel before you today. By the suffering you endured in that painful moment and by your faithful trust in God, receive my prayer offered with humility and hope.
Loving Mother, because your Son refuses you nothing, present my petition before His Sacred Heart. Ask Him to hear my prayer and grant it according to His most holy and perfect will. Through the merits of His Sacred Passion and your sorrowful intercession, I humbly pray:
(Mention your intention here…)
Mother most merciful, in my sorrow and longing I turn to you. Offer to Jesus one drop of His Precious Blood and one loving plea from your Sorrowful Heart on my behalf. Remind Him that you are our sweetness, our life, and our hope. Confident in your maternal intercession, I trust that my prayer will be answered according to God’s loving will. Amen.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
Closing Prayer
O Lord Jesus Christ, through the loving intercession of Your Sorrowful Mother, receive the prayers we have offered today. Comfort us in times of grief and strengthen our hope in the promise of eternal life. When sorrow fills our hearts, remind us that Your love is stronger than death.
Bless us, protect our families, and grant eternal rest to those who have gone before us. As we continue walking with Mary to the Foot of the Cross, may our faith remain firm and our hope unshaken. We entrust ourselves and our departed loved ones into Your merciful hands, now and forever. Amen.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be to…
